Detailed Description

Active Violence Emergency Response Training (AVERT)

This HSI certified program is a combination of online course work and real-world simulations designed to prepare all types of individuals to respond effectively in an active shooter situation. In order to make this a more complete experience, Colorado Cardiac CPR & First Aid are including “Stop the Bleed” in conjunction with its AVERT courses. With the increased frequency of mass shootings in the United States, it just makes sense to be prepared to respond to such a situation rapidly and responsibly until first-responders arrive.  This course is open to the public.

Students are required to successfully complete the online coursework prior to their in-person skills training at the Colorado Cardiac CPR and First Aid facility. Upon registration and payment received, students will receive a confirmation email with a link to their online portion.

Topics covered include:

  • Threat assessment and warning signs identification
  • Stop the Bleed. Properly apply a tourniquet or use TAC+PAC kits
  • Escape and evasion strategies and skills
  • Effective techniques for disarming an active shooter
  • AVERT Active Shooter Survival Plan
