Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is an advanced course for healthcare providers that covers the knowledge and skills to better recognize and treat critically ill infants and children. Upon completion, students will understand how to recognize respiratory failure, shock, and cardiac arrest and initiate advanced resuscitation with airway and ventilation control, vascular access, fluid and medication therapy and identify and treat rhythm disturbances. In this course, skills are taught using learning stations for practicing essential skills and simulated clinical scenarios that encourage active participation.

Topics include:

  • Recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardio-pulmonary arrest
  • The systematic approach to pediatric assessment
  • Effective respiratory management
  • Validate skills for 1 and 2-person CPR and AED skills for infant and child
  • Defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion
  • Intraosseous access and fluid bolus administration
  • Effective resuscitation team dynamics

PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) is an advanced course designed for healthcare professionals who participate in treating pediatric injuries and emergencies requiring resuscitation.

Detailed Description

PALS On-Demand

This course is targeted towards those who need to re-certify OR have extensive knowledge in PALS. This course is NOT recommended for first-time PALS students. The cost of the Online portion and On-Demand Skills Session is non-refundable.

The Online Coursework is completed in advance, and the on-demand skills portion can be completed at your convenience at our Aurora Location – 24 hour Access for On-Demand Training.

Note: Unlike our instructor-led classes, the On-Demand Skills Session does not offer the same kind of interaction and Q & A. There is NO instructor to guide students or answer questions.

Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS)

This course is for anyone taking PALS for the first time or if you let your PALS certification expire. This is a one-day course that lasts approximately 12 hours and includes a 2 year certification from the American Heart Association.

PALS Renewal

The PALS Renewal course is for anyone with a current PALS certification through the American Heart Association. You MUST have your AHA PALS card to be eligible for this class and your card cannot be expired.  You will be asked to show your current PALS card when you arrive to your course. Testing will include both a written and skills portion. Upon completion of this 6-hour course, you will receive a 2 year PALS certification through the American Heart Association.

PALS Hybrid/Skills

The PALS Hybrid Class Online/ Skills course is a practical skills testing session for students who have completed the didactic portion of PALS and the written test online via the American Heart Association’s website. During the 2 hour skills session, you will be tested on information from the online course and on the practical skills presented in the online course. Upon completion of the skills session, you will receive a 2 year PALS certification through the American Heart Association.

  • Purchase and complete HeartCode PALS Part 1.
  • Schedule a date to come in and complete the hands on portion.
  • Make sure to bring the online completion certificate with you to class.

FAQ

The American Heart association requires that all students have access to the newest edition of the PALS Provider Manual during and after the class. If you do not have access to one, books will be on sale at the beginning of each class for $70. You may also purchase an eBook online for $70.

Yes. You can add a BLS certification to any of our PALS courses for an additional $55. This will allow you to obtain both certifications without having to take two separate classes. Select “Yes” for ‘BLS for Healthcare Providers Certification- Add on’ at registration.

If you require Continuing Education credits for your course, please submit to us, in writing, your request, and send it to the email address PRIOR to the start of your course. According to the American Heart Association, CEUs for in-person courses are only offered to EMS providers. RNs, pharmacists, PAs, and physicians may qualify for CEUs credits if they are enrolled in a Hybrid/Online Skills Course and if eligible can claim these CEUs through their AHA elearning portal.
