Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is an advanced course for healthcare providers that covers the knowledge and skills to better recognize and treat critically ill infants and children. Upon completion, students will understand how to recognize respiratory failure, shock, and cardiac arrest and initiate advanced resuscitation with airway and ventilation control, vascular access, fluid and medication therapy and identify and treat rhythm disturbances. In this course, skills are taught using learning stations for practicing essential skills and simulated clinical scenarios that encourage active participation.

Topics include:

  • Recognition and treatment of infants and children at risk for cardio-pulmonary arrest
  • The systematic approach to pediatric assessment
  • Effective respiratory management
  • Validate skills for 1 and 2-person CPR and AED skills for infant and child
  • Defibrillation and synchronized cardioversion
  • Intraosseous access and fluid bolus administration
  • Effective resuscitation team dynamics

PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) is an advanced course designed for healthcare professionals who participate in treating pediatric injuries and emergencies requiring resuscitation.

Detailed Description

PALS On-Demand

This course is intended for individuals who need to renew their PALS certification or who have extensive prior knowledge of PALS. It is not recommended for first-time PALS students. Students must complete the required online coursework prior to attending the On-Demand Skills Session, which may be completed at the student’s convenience at our Aurora location with 24/7 access. This course includes a 2-year certification from the American Heart Association. The cost of the online portion and On-Demand Skills Session is non-refundable.

Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) Provider

This course is designed for individuals taking PALS for the first time or for those whose PALS certification has expired. The PALS Provider course is a one-day program totaling approximately 12 hours of instruction and includes a 2-year American Heart Association PALS certification upon successful completion.

An online PALS pretest is required prior to attending class. Instructions for completing the pretest will be provided in your confirmation email.

PALS Renewal

The PALS Renewal course is intended for individuals with a current, unexpired American Heart Association PALS certification. This course is approximately 8 hours in length and includes both written and hands-on skills testing. Upon successful completion, students will receive a 2-year American Heart Association PALS certification.

PALS Hybrid/Skills

The PALS Hybrid (Online + Skills) course is a hands-on skills testing sessionfor students who have completed the didactic coursework and written exam online through the American Heart Association. This in-person skills session lasts approximately 2 hours and focuses on practical skills evaluation based on the AHA HeartCode® PALS program. Upon successful completion of the skills session, students will receive a 2-year American Heart Association PALS certification.

How It Works

  1. Purchase and complete the AHA HeartCode® PALS online course
  2. Register for and attend the 2-hour in-person PALS Skills session
  3. Receive your 2-year AHA PALS certification

FAQ

The American Heart association requires that all students have access to the newest edition of the PALS Provider Manual during and after the class.

Yes. You can add a BLS certification to any of our PALS courses for an additional $55. This will allow you to obtain both certifications without having to take two separate classes. Select “Yes” for ‘BLS for Healthcare Providers Certification- Add on’ at registration.

If you require Continuing Education credits for your course, please submit to us, in writing, your request, and send it to the email address PRIOR to the start of your course. According to the American Heart Association, CEUs for in-person courses are only offered to EMS providers. RNs, pharmacists, PAs, and physicians may qualify for CEUs credits if they are enrolled in a Hybrid/Online Skills Course and if eligible can claim these CEUs through their AHA elearning portal.
