Are You Basic Life Support Certified?
If you’re a health care professional in Colorado, you are more than likely required to be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS). The BLS certification isn’t simply a box you must check off to remain in good standing with the state of Colorado. Basic Life Support classes are a true asset and occupational necessity for you to perform your job well.
Being certified in Basic Life Support means that you’ll feel prepared for emergency situations, whether that means a drowning incident, choking, cardiac arrest, or countless other emergency situations. While improving your skills as a health care professional, you’ll grow in competency to serve as an asset to your family and community, as well as those you care for in your line of work.
The topics covered in the American Heart Association Basic Life Support Class are vast and comprehensive, and include:
- Rescue breathing for victims of all ages
- Adult and child rescue techniques
- CPR (including CPR with advanced airway)
- Safe and effective AED use
- Choking and airway obstruction
- Bag valve mask best practices
- And much more!
All health care providers in Colorado must carry a current BLS certification card. In Colorado, EMTs, RNs, CNAs, and MDs, and in a patient-facing capacity, whether that’s in a hospital or pre-hospital, are required to have BLS certification. This course is also ideal for firefighters and police officers.
