What is BLS?
BLS(Basic Life Support) is the CPR/AED course required by the state of Colorado for any and all currently working medical professionals. If you work as a healthcare provider in Colorado you are required to carry a current BLS card. Cards are good for 2 years.
Is CPR/AED included in the BLS class?
Yes CPR and AED usage are the main focuses of the BLS course though there are several other topics covered.
Is First Aid training a part f the BLS course?
No First Aid training is not a part of the BLS course and though it is uncommon some institutions may require you to carry a First Aid card. If it is required by your employer we do offer a separate First Aid course.
Why does my card no longer say “BLS for the Healthcare Provider?”
There used to be differentiation with the cards but that is no longer the case. The new BLS Course card replaces the BLS for Healthcare Providers (BLS HCP) and BLS for Prehospital Providers (BLS PHP) course cards. To see the full memo from the AHAclick here ---> MEMO
I do not want to come to a class of any kind. Is there a fully online option for me to get my certification?
Unfortunately there is not. There is a Hybrid Skills course available where you do your didactic learning and take your written test online via the AHAAHA website but you still have to go to a training site for your practical skills testing. For more details please call our office.
I have a current card...is there a BLS Renewal course?
The BLS course is the same for first time certifications and for those needing recertification.
